Health Programs

The prevalence of HIV among adults in Kenya is 4.9%, translating to approximately 1.3 million adults living with HIV . The HIV prevalence in Kericho is 3.4% according to Kenya Population-based HIV Impact Assessment (KENPHIA) 2018. Konnect Youth Consortium and a critical stakeholder in HIV Prevention seeks to contribute to the attainment of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) through comprehensive HIV/STI prevention, treatment and care cascade for adolescents, key populations and young people. KYC aims to participate in reducing new HIV infections by 75%, reduce AIDS-related mortality by 50%, micro-eliminate viral hepatitis and reduce the incidence of sexually transmitted infections, reduce HIV-related stigma and discrimination to less than 25% .

Tuberculosis (TB) is a key priority communicable disease and a major public health concern in Kenya. Kenya is classified as a high burden country for TB, TB/HIV and Multi drug resistant (MDR) TB. Tuberculosis is the 4th leading cause of mortality in Kenya. The TB Prevalence Survey conducted in 2015/2016, found the TB prevalence to be 426/100,000 on all forms of TB. These results showed there is a large pool of missing people with TB that is contributing to the cycle of transmission. Having won the AMREF /GLOBAL FUND 2021-2024 TB grant KYC aims to play a key role in addressing this gap within Bomet County through Strengthening Community systems and supporting outreach services and mentorship among the HCW and CHVs through capacity building

Care & Treatment

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) the main objective of treatment of HIV infection is to reduce the mortality and morbidity caused by the virus and associated conditions, increasing survival, improving the quality of life and preventing HIV transmission. HIV treatment involves the use of combined antiretroviral therapy (ART) to effectively suppress the viral load, preserve (or improve) immune function and reduce the risk of opportunistic infections and cancers commonly associated with HIV immunodeficiency. People living with HIV are more likely than others to become sick with tuberculosis (TB). Worldwide, TB is one of the leading causes of death in HIV/AIDS. HIV suppression with ART also decrease the inflammation associated with the immune activation caused by chronic HIV infection that contribute with an increased occurrence of cardiovascular, renal and other end-organ diseases that are prevalent in people with HIV.

Konnect Youth Consortium plays a critical role in provision of care and treatment to the adolescents, women and key populations in South Rift Valley Kenya. The organization has dedicated Drop-In centres (DICE) for the key populations. The organization has adopted innovative strategies of providing person-centred, differentiated care models such as Flexi hours, mobile and moonlight clinics and outreaches, community engagement, Index client testing (ICT) and Partner Notification Services. KYC acknowledges that adherence to ART is important to maximize the clinical benefits on mortality and morbidity, and to reduce the risk of drug resistance. regimens.

Non Communicable Diseases(NCDs)

The rise of non-Communicable diseases in Kenya and throughout the world poses a threat to human health and a drain to the economy.According to the World Health Organization Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) kill 41 million people each year, equivalent to 71% of all deaths globally. Each year, more than 15 million people die from a NCD between the ages of 30 and 69 years; 85% of these "premature" deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries. Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), also known as chronic diseases, tend to be of long duration and are the result of a combination of genetic, physiological, environmental and behavioural factors. Konnect Youth Consortium seeks to address NCDs through creating awareness and accurate information.
